Chicken Plumping and a Salty Deception

How many of you folks enjoy a tasty chicken now and then?  If you do, listen up right now!!
There is a very strange and somewhat alarming practice occurring with those chickens you are buying at the local grocery store or market.  Max Bernstein sent me some information recently about a campaign that he is involved with through Foster Farms.  Foster Farms is an all natural poultry farm.  Started in 1939 by Max and Verda Foster, it remains a family farm with emphasis put on natural poultry farming.
So, I guess you …

Guelphs Hillside Festival – The Greenest Festival Around

Its that time of year again!  The middle of summer, and that means the Hillside Festival is finally upon us.  For a long time now, I’ve attended this festival just outside of Guelph, Ontario.  It started out in 1984 in the city of Guelph at a small venue called riverside park.  Since the first festival, the event has grown each year.  The first couple of events were one day festivals, but with the growing number of attendees, in 1987 the festival officially moved to the island on Guelph Lake and …

Clothes Lines and Drying Racks Save Energy and Money

Energy costs continue to rise, and summer time is no exception when it comes to wasted energy around the home.  Most households add an airconditioner to their electrical consumption around this time of year, which adds quite a bit more to your bill in the end.  The smart home owner will be looking for ways to offset the additional energy use, and one such way is to stop using your dryer and opt for using a clothesline or drying rack to dry your clothing outside in the fresh summer breeze!

Bottled Water Facts – Truth Be Told Its All In You Tap!

There’s been a trend over the last decade or so that is seeing people purchase more bottled water each and every year.  Its interesting really, because most people fail to actually read the lables in order to understand just where that water is coming from.   Some bottling companies, such as Nestle, are depleting groundwater sources in order to fill those bottles.  Other companies, such as Pepsi, under the guise of Aqua Fina are simply opening up the tap and filling plastic bottles with the same water that flows freely from …

Outdoor Water Conservation – Gardens and Beyond

Well, were getting to that time of year now when we begin to spend more and more time outside in our yards and gardens. The lawn furniture comes back out, and it looks like it could definitely use a scrub. The car is a little dirty from the last few months of snow, salt and mud in the springtime.
Most people are eager to get everything out and set up in their yards and gardens so that as soon as the sunshine appears, everything is ready to be used …

Spring Cleaning – Look At The Buried Litter In The Winter

Spring is here! And with that comes Spring Cleaning of all the buried trash. The snow has melted away, sunny blue skies are bringing migratrory song birds back to our northern forests. When we hear the little tweets of the first robins and orioles, we usually try to head outside to enjoy some much needed sunshine. But whats that? Look…..over there where that big pile of snow was from shovelling off your driveways and sidewalks. Ahh yes – a true sign of spring. Now I …

After Lite – Energy Free Emergency Lighting

I’m always excited when I hear of a new, innovative product. Now, when that product is also extremely eco friendly, I tend to like it that much more.
Many of us, especially those of us with kids, have ‘night lights’ plugged in around the house. Whether its to scare away the boogy man or simply to assist in finding your way to the washroom, or to the kitchen for a midnight snack of organic corn chips, nightlights are a common gadget found in nearly every household.
Not long ago, I …
