I’m sure most know of the Sea Shepherd Society.  If not, a brief introduction – Founded in 1977, the Sea Shepherd society is an international non-profit wildlife conservation group which puts its focus on marine life.  The group uses various direct action tactics to combat habitat destruction and wildlife slaughter on our oceans.

Towards the end of October, the Sea Shepherd Society unveiled their newest vessel, the Ady Gil.  This is one mean machine!  With a top speed of  90 km/hr, this ocean vessel set a new record in ocean travel.  In 2008 the boat was known as Earthrace, and it set the speed record for traveling around the globe.  The hopes are that this vessel added to the fleet of the Sea Shepherd Society will assist in combating the Japanese whale hunt later this year.  Beyond combating whale hunters, the society will also use the boat to take on shark finning by poachers in the Galapagos region, as well as blue fin tuna poaching in the mediterranean area.

Head over to http://www.seashepherd.org/ to find out a little more about the group and this insanely fast boat they’ve just acquired!

Yeah… often the entire wales aren’t even used when they’re poached. What a waste. If this can stop the hunting, that’d be great.
