Printers are one device that is often overlooked as a consumer of otherwise un-needed energy.  Thankfully, HP (Hewlett Packard) has just launched a couple of energy focused printers for home and office use.  Both of these new eco friendly printers are monochrome, and as they have been designed for office use, they also feature double sided printing options to reduce the amount of paper one might use when printing multi page documents.  Beyond that, there is also a feature that allows you to print multiple pages on one page to save even more paper and toner with larger documents.

The HP LaserJet P2055/dn has also taken a stride in saving energy by using ‘Instant On’ technology.

“Instant-on Technology uses cutting-edge fuser technology to produce the first page faster when a printer is coming out of powersave mode so your print job is done sooner. In fact, your print job may even be finished before many printers would have started printing. In today’s office environment, this means less waiting for prints and more time spent engaged in business.” (HP website)

This product also bears the Energy Star rating, which is a good thing.  Considering the number of printers out there you’d almost expect that such simple machines would bear this rating, but not all printers are created equal.  Check it out for your home and office printing needs, and don’t forget to use recycled paper as well!
