Low Impact Living’s Impact Calculator

6 November 2009 2 Comments

Ever wonder just how much of everything you use?  Just what is your impact on the planet.  I’m not talking about something simple like how much electricity you use, or how much natural gas your furnace uses.  How about all of the other little things that slip through the cracks….the things we don’t really think about too much.  Well, I was on the Low Impact Living (http://www.lowimpactliving.com) website today and decided to check out their impact calculator.

Needless to say, I was a little surprised, but even more so I was pretty impressed by the stats that it produces.  It shows not only the carbon footprint but also energy, water, wastewater, trash, and stormwater runoff footprints of your home and lifestyle.  If you want to see the shocking truth of your impact on the good ole environment….check out the impact calculator at low impact living:

It’s true all the little things add up to a big carbon footprint. You can reduce the energy that your home uses by hiring a licensed energy advisor to show you how to waste less energy

I had fun with the impact calculator, as we live in an RV. Energy use is low, particularly as the space is small and we move with the seasons. The air conditioner rarely gets used, and as we move south, really cold winters are missed. Came up with a 43 rating. I think if we did a more in depth scoring, some pieces would rise and some would be lower.
