Polar Ice Caps and Depleted Water Sources

15 September 2009 One Comment

As with most of the environmental problems that we face, this is something that is only going to get worse if we continue living the way we do.  Sadly, its something that we can probably still turn around if action is taken before we hit the ‘tipping point’.  Locked in the permafrost of the north is a vast, frozen sea  of methane that has been stored for millenia.  If we see that begin to melt……well, there’ll be no turning back.  The ice that encompasses much of the north and south poles is disappearing at a very rapid rate.  Infact, the last three years have seen a larger reduction in polar ice than those in decades before.

Its rather interesting the number of people that still don’t think climate change is real.  Its happening all around us, and whether it is caused directly or indirectly by us, its not something to be overlooked.  We are all well aware of the amount of carbon we are pumping into the atmosphere……at this point, its a by-product of our lives that we can’t get around.  Deny it all you want, but it is very real.

Theres a great article and debate regarding Arctic temperatures the warmest in 2,000 years; 2009 Arctic sea ice loss 3rd highest over the the weather underground website.  You may be surprised at some of the ideas being presented there, and many oth the ideas being discussed are probably topics that you would never really dream of being involved with a climate change discussion.

Its probably good to note also that this issue of ice and glaciers melting is not restricted to just the icecaps.  Glaciers in the Rocky Mountains on the west coast of North America are also disappearing.   Beyond that, the article is really touching on the loss of water in Lake Louise in western Canada.

Having our ice masses melting is such a horrible thing for us all. This is a worldwide problem. Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa is another that is losing it’s snow pack and ice.
We must all think green. Work on solving these problems.
The Earth is a living breathing entity in and of itself.
The human ego is the real culprit.
Unfortunately we are always in the crisis state and many times we just have that throw away mentality. What a shame because all we are doing is throwing away our futures.
