How To Get Rid Of Hazardous Chemical Products In Your Home

Proper Disposal Of Chemical Cleaners In Your Home

Lisa Sandmire sent us a question about what to do with all of those nasty chemicals and other hazardous cleaning products now that she has made the switch to green cleaning products.

Household Hazardous Waste Pickup Days

These hazardous products should not be poured down the drain or thrown out with the trash. Instead, you should collect these products and keep them stored in a safe place until you are able to dispose of them properly. Most municipalities hold Household Hazardous Waste Pickup Days. The easiest way to get rid of these nasty things is to wait for the next time your community does this. You can find out when the next pickup day is by contacting your local recycling centre, or by getting in touch with city hall in your town.

Another option is to take the products to a hazardous waste depot which is usually located somewhere near or as part of your local landfill site.

I hope that helps Lisa!

Great advice. Too many times people just throw products down the sink or thrown them in the trash not thinking about the negative impact they could have.
