Yep, clearing clogged drains……horrible thing to deal with. Believe it or not, there is a giant industry that is dedicated to nothing but clearing clogged drains. Somewhere around $150,000,000 is spent each year on extremely toxic chemical products like Drano, Liquid Plumr and many more.

Here’s the scoop on chemical drain cleaners…..If you’ve got a problem with a clogged drain that is jammed up with lard, soap, hair, toothpaste or other oily substances, most chemical drain cleaners won’t be too effective. Tests have shown that even after half an hour of waiting, the drain is still clogged.

Natural Drain Cleaning

1-1/2 cups vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
Boiling Water

Put a kettle of water on the stove to boil. Pour the baking soda down the clogged drain. Next, pour in the vinegar and cover the drain. Allow the vinegar and baking soda solution to sit and work for at least 5 minutes. (The vinegar and baking soda will begin to break down some of the fatty acids which will allow the clog to wash down the drain.) Grab the now boiling kettle of water, remove the cover from the drain and begin to pour the boiling water down the drain.

Try it out and let me know if it was effective in clearing your clogged drain.

Do not use this method if you have used a chemical drain opener as it may still be present in the drain.
