Squirrel Repellent?
Beasts! Vermin!! Tree Rats!!!
Squirrels can wreak havoc on your beautifully arranged flower pots and gardens. You see, the sneaky little critters go digging around for nuts and seeds that they’ve hidden away for future munching. That just might even mean that they’ve started digging in places where they never possible could have buried them in the first place.
I’ve spent days repotting my impatiens and geraniums after they were terrorized by squirrels. I do, after many many trial and error episodes, have one simple solution to help keep those pesky critters out of your flower pots once and for all!!
Solutions for Problem Squirrels
Its actually quite simple.
You’ve got your flower pot, filled with soil and nicely arranged with various plants. Now……you’ll need some rocks, enough to cover the soils surface in each pot. I like to use bricks. Not whole bricks, but bricks that break up easily and can be used to cover the soil. Whatever you use, make sure each piece is about 2 inches or so in diameter. The trick is to make sure that the pesky varmints can’t lift them up in order to dig into the soil underneath.
Covering the soil in your pots with rocks also has another useful benefit as well. The rocks, brick, or whatever you use acts as a mulch, causing the need for watering your plants to drop slightly.
Have any other tips for keeping those pesky squirrels away??
Let us know here! We’d love to hear about it!!!
