Remove Scuff Marks – The Green Way

There’s nothing worse than a great looking floor, covered in scuff marks. If you have kids, then you probably know what I’m talking about. Shoes, furniture and many other items are prone to causing scuff marks on your perfect floor. Here are a few ways you can try to remove them before you go out and purchase nasty chemical products:

Remove Scuff Marks From Floors

  • If you have a no-wax floor, there is a solution for removing those nasty scuff marks. Its simple really. Just grab yourself a dry paper towel and start rubbing away. That’s it. You will probably find that you don’t even need to rub very hard!
  • If you have wood floors, a couple of solutions to removing scuff marks are using the rubber sole of a tennis shoe (non-marking outsole type) on the scuff mark in a back and forth motion just like you would an eraser. This works on many other surfaces such as vinyl flooring, tile flooring, and painted surfaces (such as baseboards) as well. When using this technique, use white soled shoes for white scuffs and black for black scuffs. Hope this helps. Another solution, and also a great conversation started is to try cutting a slit in a tennis ball and attaching it to a broom or mop handle. Rub this nifty contraption back and forth like an eraser until the mark is gone.
  • Further more, you can make of paste of baking soda and water and rub it on. The scuff marks come right off! It’s an eco-friendly solution, too. On some surfaces with heavy scuff marks, you may want to try spraying a bit of vinegar on the baking soda/water solution. This will begin to bubble and loosen up the scuff. If you decide to spray some vinegar on, try this on an inconspicuous area of the floor first to make sure it won’t remove any finish or dull the finish of the floor before you begin using it to remove all of the scuff marks.
